Since the beginning, Larry Crawford has captured Conference-USA with his air of excellence. He has been one of the most dominant forces in the sprints and this year shouldn't be any different.

Crawford, a returning senior will be leading the sprint core into another exciting year in C-USA.

Last season Crawford reached his goals by running sub 20 seconds in the 200 meter dash. He also took first place in the 55 meter dash and second place in the 200 meter dash indoors.

Crawford topped off the season with a first place in the 100 meter dash and a second place in the 200 meter dash at the C-USA meet in New Orleans.

In the 1998-99 season he anchored the 4x100 meter relay team that finished third, he also finished third in the 100 meter dash.

Crawford finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a season best of 21.20. Indoors, he finished third in the 60 meters and 200 meters respectively.

Crawford is a native of Memphis and is a graduate of Craigmont high school, where he was a three year letterman on Craigmont's nationally ranked 4x200 meter relay team.

As a senior, Crawford was named a finalist for the Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps, and was awarded team Co-Most Valuable Player in field and running. He was also named most versatile athlete.

In the Tennessee State Championships, his 4x200 meter relay team captured the state title while he placed third in the long jump and fourth in the 100 meters. Crawford recorded outstanding times in high school including a 6.36 performance in the 55 meter dash and a 22.00 in the 200 meter dash indoors. Crawford has set his goals high for this season. He hopes to win both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, "I want to go out with a bang," he said.

He also hopes to qualify for the NCAA yearly tournament. Crawford also has high hopes for his team and believes it too can achieve greatness by winning the C-USA title.

Crawford and the Tigers gear up for pre-season competition on Jan. 26 at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
