My Thanksgiving was crappy!
I had to work, didn't get to eat a lot of food with my family and the weather was terrible.
I sat in my apartment pondering this semester and the New Millenium in general.
The Y2K bug didn't come and ruin things like it was rumored, so all in all everything has turned out pretty good, right?
Of course not!
Leave it to mankind to screw up life all by himself. I must say we have done a good job.
With that in mind I made a list of the things that I am thankful for in the past year.
I am thankful to have seen some of the greatest artists perform live this year including Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Jimmy Buffett and even the man who has finally taken his old name back, Prince.
I am thankful to have been a part of The Daily Helmsman through the summer and fall semesters. The paper has been a good experience, but it takes a lot of work (those who plan to join the staff next semester should be prepared).
I am definitely thankful to have attended Mardi Gras 2000, the New Orleans Jazzfest 2000 and The Essence Music Fest 2000. Of course, all these events were held in New Orleans, just a few hours away from Memphis. It's a great city and if you ever get the chance to go, do not pass it up.
I am thankful to have seen the West Coast this summer. I spent two weeks traveling from Memphis to Los Angeles to San Diego and back. Road trips are a must before you graduate!
I am thankful for the opportunity to have learned the art of photography in just a few short months. I have had the opportunity to shoot various events including concerts, sporting events and famous individuals.
I am thankful to have not gotten any hate mail or stirred up any more controversy than there already is on this campus. Thank you Matt Presson for taking the load off my back.
I am thankful that The U of M football team gave its best effort. It was a tough season and I give you guys all the credit in the world. And I am also thankful to have been in the presence of a coach like Rip Scherer -- he seemed to teach his team more than X's, O's and touchdown dances.
Above all, I am so thankful this semester and year are over.
Of course, we still may not have a President of the University (or United States) when we come back in January, but I am sure things will work themselves out.
It's almost time to sell back the books, take all the unneeded stuff that you accumulated home and let mom and dad wash your clothes for a change while you eat and rest.
In short, be good and be yourself.
As for me, I ain't going home, but I sure gotta get out of here!
