The University of Memphis men's soccer team finished the year with the most wins for the season, tying the school record of 14-6, and did not go unrecognized.
Head coach Richie Grant, along with five of his players received honors for their efforts this season from other coaches in the Conference USA.
Grant was named Coach of the Year, junior forward Sean Fraser was named to the first team All-C-USA and juniors Justin Stralka, Stephen Lewis and Lars Thorstensen were named to the second team. Freshman Clark Talley was chosen for the all-freshman team.
Grant said he was pleased to receive the honor, but was more happy for his players.
"I'm delighted for the players," he said. "I think it says a lot about our program. All five players are returning and it's nice for them to be recognized for their efforts."
Fraser, who is ranked 7th in the nation, led his team and in the C-USA in goals scored and points for 2000.
"Sean was as good last year, but he had an absolutely fantastic season this year," Grant said.
Stralka and Lewis were vital elements to the Tiger defense, but also chipped in on offense.
At the left defender position, Lewis picked up three goals and two assists this season while guarding some of the best forwards in the country. Stralka, a midfielder, recorded five goals and seven assists.
"I don't know two players who have worked as hard as Steven and Justin over the summer," Grant said. "They are very deserving."
The Tigers will lose five seniors, but will recover with their cast returning players. Last year, Memphis had a recruiting class of 10 freshman and one transfer and Grant said this year will be no different.
"The recruits we're talking to are very good prospects," Grant said. "A successful season allows you to recruit better."
