Oct. 26, 2000

9:08 a.m.

A woman's car had been parked on Alumni Drive for two days. She realized it had been broken into. After she reported the incident, officers from the Department of Public safety arrived and noticed the passenger side vent window was broken and there was glass inside the vehicle. The victim said her CD player and CDs were missing. The officers said the suspect had torn the CD player from the dash and the glove compartment was ransacked. Officers were unable to take prints from the vehicle. Loss was estimated at $900.

Oct. 27, 2000

2:33 a.m.

Two officers with the department of Public Safety observed two suspicious persons in the parking lot at 485 Patterson. The officers witnessed the suspects getting into a car and stopped the vehicle. Since the suspects could not give a reason for being in the parking lot, they allowed the officers to search the vehicle.

The officers found checkbooks, driver's licenses and credit cards that belonged to three females that were not there. The only explanation the suspects could give was that they borrowed the car. The officers contacted the women whose names were on the possessions.

While the officers were making a report with the Germantown police department, one of the suspects asked for his cigarettes from the front seat of the truck. The officer retrieved the cigarettes and found inside the pack a glass tube with black residue, which the suspect said was a crack pipe.

The officers returned the checkbooks and other stolen items to the victims.

Oct. 30, 2000

6:42 a.m.

A student's backpack was stolen from a vehicle parked in the Central Lot. The victim parked his vehicle at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and discovered his backpack missing in the morning. A duffel bag was also taken from the car. Loss was estimated at $362.

Oct. 25, 2000

11:14 a.m.

Officers responded to a vandalism call on Midland Avenue. Upon arrival they spoke with a man who stated the words "UT sucks" were keyed on the right side of his car. The victim told an officer he parked his car for an hour on Oct. 25. The victim said while he was in 3611 Midland two men teased him about UT. There were no witnesses to the vandalism. The suspects have not been identified at this time. Loss was estimated at $501.

Nov. 1, 2000

4:20 a.m.

Persons waved down a campus safety officer on Midland Avenue and complained that a man was refusing to leave their property. The property owners said the man was irate and wanted to fight. The suspect said he was a member of the fraternity and had come to visit. People at the house said that they did not know the man. The complainant also said the suspect broke into a car and drank alcohol left by the owner. The man was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and public intoxication.

Nov. 1, 2000

11:51 a.m.

A 1998 Hyundai Accent was stolen from the Richardson Towers northwest parking lot. The last time the victim saw her car was at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. She said she left her car locked up in the parking lot, but she was unable to locate her car when she returned Nov. 1. The officers were unable to locate any debris or the vehicle. Total loss was estimated at $9,000.
