Today, in front of the Administration Building, the Veteran's Day POW-MIA vigil will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The closing ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.
Air Force Lt. Col. Willis today, Army, Naval and Air Force Reserve officers are honoring those who came before them with this vigil, as well as prisoners of war and those who were pronounced missing in action during the Vietnam War.
Willis said every 30 minutes different cadets will be in the area where the veterans are being honored.
"There will be a table with a lantern, representing an eternal flame, that recognizes the sacrifice they made," said Willis. He said this is a community service act for the cadets.
Air Force cadet Craig Campbell said the vigil is meaningful to him, both to honor the men who died and in memory of one of his own family members.
"My grandfather flew a B-17 on tours of Europe during World War II, and then went on to the FBI," said Campbell.
Campbell said he was eight years old when his grandfather died. He said he will think about his grandfather along with the other veterans memorialized during the vigil.
"I am honored that I was chosen to organize the event," said Campbell. Campbell said flags, including those for all divisions of military service and the American flag, will be represented and flown at half-staff throughout the day.
"The University should get involved to honor those who have fought for us," Campbell said.
Although Veteran's Day is actually on Nov. 11 -- to observe the end of World War I, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 -- Nov. 10 is the day Veteran's Day is observed this year.
"This is a time for not only those who served, but for everyone to show a great deal of pride for those who have fought and died, paying the ultimate price," Campbell said. "This is a perfect time to honor those who died for our freedom."
