The 2000-2001 U of M phone directory has arrived and is available for pick up at the UC information desk.
The directory, an annual publication provided to students and faculty, is divided into several sections with information including sports schedules for the 2000-2001 sports season, a listing of administrative services, faculty member's names and numbers, student names and numbers and a "yellow pages" type listing of area businesses.
Register office employee Debbie Lynch said the student and faculty names and numbers are retrieved from U of M records.
"If a student needs to make corrections to his or her name, address, phone number or e-mail address, they should contact the Office of Student Information and Services in room 119 of the Administration Bldg," Lynch said. "The changes will be made in the next directory. Once the directory is published, it is published."
The directory also includes coupons for Papa Johns Pizza, Holiday Inn, Pizza Hut and D.O.G. Micro computers.
Director of publications Butch Alford said the directory is produced by College Directory Publishing -- a firm that specializes in compiling information and producing a directory for colleges and other higher education institutions.
"The directory is produced free of charge," Alford said. "College Directory Publishing has the rights to sell ads to area businesses and services. They pay us a royalty for distributing the publication."
The directory is made available to students and faculty in late October, early November due to the time it takes to compile the information and finalize the "yellow pages" advertisements, according to the Office of Publications.
Assistant vice president of business and financial administration John Cothern said the advertisements can be from any company with a student interest with the exception of tobacco and alcohol companies.
According to Alford, the directory has been distributed by College Directory Publishing for a number of years.
"We are pleased with them," Alford said.
According to the Office of Publications, corrections for the new directory have also been released due to changes in staff and other information that was sent to the outside publisher.
If students do not want their information printed in the directory, they should submit a signed statement to the Records Office, room 115 of the Administration Bldg. within 14 days of the beginning of classes each semester.
Senior Bobbie Soucy said she has been waiting on the new directory.
"I work in the bookstore and this directory is so helpful," Soucy said. "I am also the president of a sorority and the directory helps me track down my members. It is an extremely used publication."
