October 13, 2000

12:41 p.m.

Officers responded to a theft call from the Mitchell Hall Auditorium.

The victim, a worker in the building, reported a missing laser disc player, a video recorder, and a wireless microphone. The victim said the items were stolen out of a cabinet in Mitchell Hall Auditorium.

The victim last saw the items on October 12th, when she secured the area. The officer did not detect forced entry and there are no suspects at this time. Loss was estimated at $1,600.

October 13, 2000

4:51 p.m.A woman filled out a self report about forgery of her checks.

The victim left her wallet in the Richardson Towers lobby, and when she returned the wallet was missing.

Two days later, the victim received a call from her Bank. The bank informed her that someone had tried to cash one of her checks, but a bank employee had recognized the signature on the check as a forgery. When the victim arrived at the bank, the suspect was gone, but the bank kept the check and made a copy of the victim's ID.

October 16, 2000

11:40 a.m.

A woman in Manning Hall informed an officer with the Department of Public Safety that a painting had been stolen from an unlocked room. The painting was last seen Oct. 4 and discovered missing Oct. 11. Loss was estimated at $600.

October 16, 2000

9:31 p.m.

An officer responded to a burglary report from an apartment on south campus. Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim, who said someone had entered his apartment and stolen a calculator. The suspect entered through the kitchen window, but the complainant could not provide the name or brand of the calculator.

October 17, 2000

11:38 a.m.

Two pairs of shoes in sizes 10.5 and 11.5 were found missing in the equipment room of the fieldhouse on Oct. 1. A self report was filled out on the 17th and the loss was estimated at $140.

October 17, 2000

11:51 p.m.

Officers responded to an assault report in the Information Center parking lot on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, they met with a woman who said her ex-boyfriend had come to visit her. During their visit, a male friend called and the ex-boyfriend became very angry.

The man left and went to the information lot, where his vehicle was parked. The victim followed, and they got into a verbal argument, whereupon the victim slapped him.

The ex-boyfriend then grabbed the victim by the hair, punched her in the face and knocked her into the ground. The suspect then got into the vehicle and left the scene.

A man who observed this incident confirmed the victim's report. The Memphis Fire Department was called, but the victim refused the treatment for her injuries due to the cost. The victim gave the officer the suspect's name, address and vehicle description.
